Getting started
This guide is for site users and managers. It covers everything you can do in the DMT.
What the DMT is for
The DMT records any stoppage over 15 minutes, why it happened and how many people it affected. Each delay is tied to the precondition that wasn't met (for example, drawings not issued or materials not delivered), so the causes can be fixed rather than just counted.
What you can see
You see your own company's gangs and delays only. Other companies can't see your records, and you can't see theirs. This is enforced by the database, not just hidden on screen.
The normal process
Log a delay → pick your gang → pick what failed → pick the cause → times and people → Save
If the delay is still running, save it without an end time and close it later from the Delays list.
Signing in and passwords
First sign-in
- Open the DMT link WLC sent you.
- Enter your work email and the temporary password WLC gave you.
- You'll be asked to choose your own password straight away: at least 10 characters.
Your temporary password stops working once you set your own. Use your new password on every device: laptop, phone and tablet.
Changing your password
Signed in, tap Change password in the top bar.
Forgotten password
Email dmt-help@wlcuk.com. WLC will set a new temporary password, and the app will ask you to choose your own again.
Staying signed in
You stay signed in on each device until you tap Sign out. On a shared computer, always sign out.
Log a delay
Record a delay against one of your gangs. Log a delay is the screen you land on after signing in.
1. Gang
Choose Company, Project, Section and Gang, in that order. Each list fills in once the one before it is chosen. The gang's size and rate per person are carried into the delay automatically. If your gang isn't listed, add it on the Gangs tab first.
2. Which precondition failed?
Pick one of the 7 families: what had to be in place before work could start, and wasn't. See The 7 preconditions.
3. Cause
Pick the specific cause. Under each one is the record that should have flagged the problem in advance, for example the drawing register or the logistics unit. That's where to look when checking the delay later.
4. Time and people
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Date | The day the delay happened, not the day you're recording it. |
| Start time | When the delay actually began. |
| End time | When work could restart. Leave blank if it's still running; the delay is saved as open. |
| People delayed | How many people in the gang stopped. Can't be more than the gang size. |
| Shift length | Normal hours in the shift, used to show how much of the day was lost. Usually 8. |
| What happened | Enough for someone else to check it later without asking you. |
As you type, the box at the bottom shows the duration (h:mm), person-hours lost, idle labour cost and the share of the shift lost. It also warns you if the delay is under 15 minutes, longer than the shift, or involves more people than the gang has.
Save
Tap Save delay. The company, project and section stay selected, so you can log the next one quickly.
Open delays and closing them
You don't need to wait for a delay to finish before recording it. Save it without an end time and it shows as Open.
- Go to Delays and set the status filter to Open.
- Tap the delay.
- Enter the end time and tap Close delay.
Hours and cost are only counted once a delay is closed, so close them the same day where you can. A closed delay can be reopened from the same screen if the end time was wrong.
Delays list and export
Every delay for your company, newest first. Filter by status, family or date range, or search by gang, project or details. Tap any delay to see everything recorded about it.
Export
Export CSV downloads the delays currently shown, with hours as decimals so they work in Excel.
Deleting
Only managers can delete a delay, and it can't be undone. If something was logged wrongly, edit or reopen it instead where you can.
Gangs
A gang is a crew of a single trade working on one project section. Delays are always logged against a gang.
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Company | Your company (already set if you belong to one company). |
| Project, Section / phase | Pick an existing name from the suggestions where one exists, spelled exactly the same, so the figures stay together. |
| Project code | Your internal project code, if you use one. |
| Gang name | A name the site team recognises, e.g. "Carpenters L2 North". |
| Trade | One of the 19 trade groups. |
| Gang size | Usual number of people in the gang. |
| Rate per person (£/hr) | The typical hourly cost of one person in this gang. |
Changing a gang only affects delays logged afterwards. Past delays keep the size and rate they were logged with.
The 7 preconditions
Work can only start when all seven are in place. A delay means at least one wasn't.
| Family | The question it answers |
|---|---|
| 1. Preceding activities | Was the work before ours finished, signed off and handed over? |
| 2. Workspace | Was the area free, clear, safe to access and handed over? |
| 3. Information | Did the crew have the right, current drawings and specification? |
| 4. Safety | Were the method statement, permits, briefing and PPE in place? |
| 5. Materials | Was the right material delivered, to the right place, on time? |
| 6. Equipment | Was the plant available, working, certified and with an operator? |
| 7. Team | Was the full crew there, with the right skills and tickets? |
The full list of 56 causes, with where the evidence for each sits, is on the Cause list tab in the app.
Using it on a phone
- iPhone: open the link in Safari, tap Share → Add to Home Screen. It then opens like an app.
- Android: open the link in Chrome, tap ⋮ → Add to Home screen.
- Sign in once on the phone with your own password and you'll stay signed in.
Problems and fixes
"Email or password not recognised"
Most often you're using the temporary password after already choosing your own. Use your own password. Still stuck? Email dmt-help@wlcuk.com for a reset.
"Your account isn't linked to a company yet"
Your sign-in worked, but WLC hasn't finished setting you up. Email dmt-help@wlcuk.com.
The page won't open on my phone
- Switch between mobile data and Wi-Fi.
- Try a Private tab in Safari, or another browser.
- Check your phone's software is up to date (iOS 15.4 or later).
My project, section or gang isn't in the list
Add the gang on the Gangs tab. Projects and sections appear once they have at least one gang.
The figures look out of date
The app refreshes every minute. To refresh straight away, reload the page.
Feedback and reporting a problem
Email dmt-help@wlcuk.com.
Feedback
Suggest an improvement, point out something that could be easier, or comment on how a screen works. Feedback doesn't have to mean something is broken.
Reporting a problem
For example: a button not responding, information not appearing, a screen displaying wrongly, a project missing, or a delay failing to save. To help WLC fix it quickly, include:
- what you were doing and what you expected
- the exact message on screen, ideally a screenshot
- the device and browser (e.g. iPhone, Safari)
- the time it happened
